TheatreWorks presents The Light in the Piazza, a musical about protective mother whose world gets turned upside down when her fragile daughter falls for a young Italian man while they are traveling through Italy. (Mountain View: thru Sept 19)

San Jose Rep presents Black Pearl Sings. A white ethnomusicologist develops an unlikely alliance with an African-American prisoner in Texas. (San Jose: thru Sept 26)

The annual Mountain View Art & Wine Festival. rolls into town with arts and crafts, food, wines, microbrews, live music and more. 10-6. (Mountain View: Sept 11-12)

Romantic and lively Mexican ballads play center stage at the San Jose International Mariachi & Mexican Heritage Festival, a celebration of music, film, art and dance. Special guests include Ozomatli, Los Tigres Del Norte, Intocable and more. (San Jose: Sept 15-26)

The Cantor Arts Center's new exhibit, Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and its Diasporas explores 500 years of visual cultures and histories of the African water diety Mami Wata. (Stanford: thru Jan 2)

ATTRACTIONS HIGHLIGHT:

The first and only West Coast appearance of the exhibit Genghis Khan comes to the Tech Museum in San Jose for a limited engagement.
